Apr\u00e8s son certificat d&rsquo;\u00e9tudes, au d\u00e9but des ann\u00e9es 1900, il parcourait la campagne de st Uze en exer\u00e7ant le m\u00e9tier de facteur. N&rsquo;ayant pas de gros moyens financiers, il se mit \u00e0 ramasser des branches de noyers qui gisaient \u00e0 terre pour fabriquer des galoches. Tr\u00e8s rapidement son savoir faire fut reconnu dans la r\u00e9gion, il montat son atelier de scierie et dut embaucher du personnel. Plutot que de continuer \u00e0 faire appel \u00e0 un transporteur pour ses livraisons de bois, il acheta son propre camion et recruta deux chauffeurs car les camions de l&rsquo;\u00e9poque ne se conduisaient pas seul. Pour rentabiliser son camion, il faisait aussi du transport pour les particuliers de la r\u00e9gion et pour les usines de St uze (les fragiles caisses de porcelaine Revol).<\/p>\n<p>D\u00e8s les ann\u00e9es 1920, il livrait des cerneaux de noix de la vall\u00e9e de l&rsquo;Is\u00e8re jusqu&rsquo;aux huileries de Marseille, puis le commerce du bois p\u00e9riclitant il se consacra alors uniquement au transport de marchandises, ce qui l&rsquo;amena \u00e0 prendre contact avec la pap\u00e8terie Leydier dont il devint le transporteur exclusif. C&rsquo;est ainsi que fut cr\u00e9\u00e9 \u00ab\u00a0Transports en tous genre et pour tous pays Joseph Romulus\u00a0\u00bbavec 2 camions qui pouvaient transporter jusqu&rsquo;\u00e0 5 tonnes de marchandises. L&rsquo;ancienne scierie de Joseph servait de garage aux camions.<\/p>\n<p>Pendant la guerre de 39\/45 il avait recours aux camions \u00e0 gazog\u00e8ne et \u00e0 la sortie de la guerre, il s&rsquo;\u00e9quipa d&rsquo;un Berliet GDR et d&rsquo;un ancien semi remorque de l&rsquo;arm\u00e9e am\u00e9ricaine. Son fils Georges entra dans l&rsquo;entreprise par le bas de l&rsquo;echelle, et lorsque Joseph d\u00e9c\u00e8da en 1954 c&rsquo;est lui qui pris la responsabilit\u00e9 des transports et de l&rsquo;entretien des camions, ses soeurs s&rsquo;occupant de la partie administrative.
